The Associated Press recognized WGNI for "Best Newcast" during its annual meeting on April 20th.
With more than 12 years experience in print and broadcast journalism, WGNI News Director Rhonda Bellamy has amassed numerous awards and commendations. Rhonda has been recognized for "Best Newscast" and "Best Consumer Reporting" by the Associated Press. She presently serves as vice-president of the North Carolina Associated Press Broadcasters. A graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham, she holds a B.A. in English with a concentration in Media/Journalism and graduate credit in Instructional Media. She is featured in Coastal Carolina Women's Press' recent release, "The Secret to Their Success: How 33 Women Made Their Dreams Come True."
Rhonda is a founding board member of the Black Arts Alliance Inc., a Voice
and Reader's Theater instructor for Dreams of Wilmington, and is regularly
commissioned to craft one-woman stage presentations from an extensive
repertoire of works by African-American, women's and children's authors.
She is mom to 17 y.o. Aya and 19 y.o. Rashaad
