We’re excited to introduce you to the July WGNI Wish Spotlight, 5-year-old Eli! Eli and his mom Sarah came by the studio to tell us all about their incredible experience with Make-A-Wish Eastern NC. “It honestly meant everything to our family. After everything he had been through it was such a relief to go and enjoy ourselves and just see him have a good time,” says Sarah.
Eli was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, a former of kidney cancer, and the family faced several challenges during his treatment. When Eli heard about the chance to have a wish with Make-A-Wish he knew right away where he wanted to go: “LEGO LAND”
Eli, his mom, Sarah, older brother, Oliver, and their grandma got the full red-carpet treatment visiting Legoland and staying at the Give Kids The World Village in Orlando Florida. “because my mom and his brother got to go it was just the best experience we’ve ever had!”
The family also got to visit Walt Disney World Resort and experienced the full magic of a wish every day returning to their room “there were cookies and stuffed animals! It was the BEST” says Eli.
This month we’re spotlighting 6-year-old Christian Miller from Wilmington. Christian and his family visited our studio to tell us a little about the difficult path they’ve been on and how wonderful their experience was with Make-A-Wish Eastern NC. When Christian was just 4 the family was told that he had leukemia, ALL, and was going to need to begin a difficult treatment regimen. Christian has been a “mighty warrior” throughout his diagnosis and still today as he goes to Chapel Hill for treatments once a week. “We walk in faith knowing he will be cured and fully recover and lead a long, healthy and vibrant life,” Monty Miller, Christian’s dad, said “and Christian has faced this with such strength.”
So when it was suggested that Christian could have a wish from the local Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina chapter the family was excited for the break in treatment and the special time together. In December 2017, Christian was granted a wish and flown to Disney World with his parents and 3 brothers, Caleb, Joshua and Jacob “Give Kids The World Village was INCREDIBLE! It was just so nice, they did everything for our whole family,” says Christian’s mom Stephanie, “getting to bypass the people and all the lines is the best gift ever!” “They rolled the red carpet out for all the kids, and it’s something they’ll never forget,” says Monty.
Christian spent time with his family visiting all of the Disney World parks and got to spend a special day at Legoland as well.
“It brings tears to your eyes to see a child’s eyes just light up, it’s just the best. If you’re thinking about donating, just don’t think, just go ahead and donate!”
This month we have the awesome people at O’Brien Service Company with us too! So if you’re in need of any HVAC services be sure to call O’Brien to help support our efforts with Make-A-Wish® Eastern North Carolina. With over 300 children in our local area on the wait list, every little bit helps!
The good folks at O’Brien Service Company have been longtime supporters of Make-A-Wish® Eastern North Carolina and they are putting that support on display for the entire month of April. Meredith and JP from O’Brien Service Company stopped by our studios to tell us about their involvement in the WISH Champions Campaign. WISH stands for We Inspire Strength and Hope and as a Champion, O’Brien service company is using their strength as a prominent business to help raise money to grant the wish of a child right here in Eastern NC. “Right now there are over 350 wishes waiting to be granted and we want to do our part to bring that number down” says JP “so for the month of April we’ll be donating a portion of our revenue from all our service calls, maintenance calls, and installations to our Make-A-Wish WISH Champions campaign.”
“That includes any products you by too!” says Meredith “air filters, thermostats, and other home air needs are included. Plus you can also make a donation on our website and with each $5 donation you get entered to win some really awesome prizes like gift certificates to area restaurants, Freakers, event tickets and even a 50 inch TV!”

This month we shine our spotlight on one of the many invaluable volunteers with Make-A-Wish® Eastern NC. Jeannie Rodbell stopped by the studio and talked with us about the incredible impact being a volunteer Wish Granter has, “I don’t know how to put it into words because it brings tears to my eyes just to think about…being involved is priceless. They’re like my kids and I get to be the fairy godmother and come in and make something special happen for them. It means being able to put a light in their life and help them feel normal again.”
As a volunteer Wish Granter, Jeannie spends time with the wish kids getting to really know them and help them figure out what their one true wish is. “We dedicate as much time as needed helping them decide what they want because it is 100% THAT child’s wish, it’s all about what they want.” And Jeannie has seen some truly incredible wishes! From kids wishing to meet their favorite celebrity to a trip to the happiest place on earth, each wish is like a magic experience for both the kids and for the volunteer Wish Granters, like Jeannie. “We get to meet some incredible families and really make a difference, what more could you want, right?”

We have a big, exciting month of April ahead! This month we are honored to introduce you to Noel and her mom Gailyn as our Make-A-Wish Spotlight AND we’re introducing you to an outstanding local business that’s sponsoring our spotlight and doing some big fundraising throughout the month!
(L to R) Janis Netherland, Make-A-Wish Eastern NC, Gailyn Gagliardi, Noel Gagliardi,
Noel and Gailyn came by the studio to talk with us about them magic they experienced during the most difficult of times. Noel was diagnosed with A.L.L. at just 5 years old and that sent the family on a 3 year course of uncertainty. During this time of treatments and illness they met the volunteers with Make-A-Wish® Eastern NC and were granted a wish that was an absolute dream come true!
The family spent time at Disney World and Give Kids The World Village and to hear it from Noel they rode “rollercoasters all day every day!” As we talked more it was incredibly clear that the beautiful, vibrant, 13-year-old young lady still remembered everything about her trip and holds the memories of her time wrapped in the love of Make-A-Wish very close. Gailyn says “it’s something we will never forget and it’s something that is hard to describe. I can say with full confidence that it was the ONLY bright light in our experience was Make-A-Wish. Their hearts are the purest of anything I’ve ever seen, we couldn’t be more thankful, more grateful to them.”
And this month we have the awesome people at O’Brien Service Company with us too! For every service O’Brien Service Company performs during the month of April a portion will be donated towards granting a child’s wish. These services include all our service calls, maintenance calls, and installations! So if you’re in need of any HVAC services be sure to call O’Brien to help support our efforts with Make-A-Wish®Eastern North Carolina. With over 300 children in our local area on the wait list, every little bit helps! Click below to get all the information on how O’Brien is giving back this April!
